Overview
The Southwest Fire Academy Fire Incident Safety Officer training program is compliant with the NFPA 1521 Fire Department Safety Officer Professional Standard (2020). This course is designed to teach you how to best ensure safety of personnel on scene of emergency incidents, within the incident command system. This course is done entirely online. Upon registration, you will be granted access your online course.
Topics include: understanding health and safety principles, prioritizing tasks and making decisions in an environment with unknown variables, monitoring conditions, understanding and mitigating hazards, managing the transfer of ISO duties, understanding incident strategic requirements, identifying incident environmental conditions, and performing in an ISO capacity at various emergency scene types, including fire, technical search and rescue, and hazardous materials incidents.
This course takes approximately 80 – 120 hours to complete.

Certification
Candidates successful in this program will receive a certificate of completion from Southwest Fire Academy, and will qualify to complete OFMEM testing.
