    Course Description:

    This course includes all the learning and skills required for NFPA 1006 (2017) Ice Rescue Awareness, Operations and Technician Skills.  Utilizing SFA’s student manual and Job Performance Requirements students will be qualified to Southwest Fire Academy’s Ice Rescue Program.

     

    The program consists of the following:

    • Pre-Course Reading Materials
    • SFA Swim Test
    • Instructor Led Theory
    • Instructor Led Practical Skills

     

    After the skills day in the water / ice environment, students will participate in several scenarios that include incident command, safety officer, sector officers, risk and hazard assessments and multiple victims.

     

    All training is conducted safely in accordance with Section 21 Guidance Notes, NFPA Standards for Increased Hazard Exposure Training and Experienced Southwest Fire Academy Instructors with a 5:1 Student to Instructor ratio.

    This course includes all the learning and skills required for NFPA 1006 (2017) Vehicle Rescue Awareness and Operations Skills.  Utilizing SFA’s student manual and Job Performance Requirements students will be qualified to Southwest Fire Academy’s Vehicle Rescue Operations course.

     

    The program consists of the following:

    • Access to SFA PPE
    • Instructor Led Theory
    • Instructor Led Practical Skills

     

    SFA has access to multiple sets of TNT Hydraulic Rescue Tools in addition to hand and pneumatic extrication tools.  Additionally, SFA utilizes Paratec Rescue Struts and Airbags as part of the training! 

     

    All training is conducted safely in accordance with Section 21 Guidance Notes, NFPA Standards for Increased Hazard Exposure Training and Experienced Southwest Fire Academy Instructors with a 5:1 Student to Instructor ratio.

    SFA NFPA 1006 (2017) CH5 Rope Rescue Awareness and Operations:

    Course Length:

    4 Days or 32 Hours of Instruction

    1 Day or 8 hours of OFMEM Certification Testing for NFPA 1006 (2013) General Rescue

    This course runs over two weekends:

    • Friday April 16th - 0800 to 1700
    • Saturday April 17th - 0800 to 1700
    • Sunday April 18th - 0800 to 1700
    • Saturday April 24th - 0800 to 1700
    • Sunday April 25th - 0800 to 1700 (OFMEM Testing)

     

    NOTE – Pre-Service students will be required to pay the OFMEM a $175.00 testing fee.  This is not a Southwest Fire Academy Fee.  Municipal firefighters are exempt from this fee if their fire department signs them in for the testing.

     

    Course Description:

    Southwest Fire Academy provides candidates with a unique training opportunity for candidates to become trained and qualified to NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Operations Level.  This 4-day course exceeds the requirements outlined in NFPA 1006 (2017) and NFPA 1670 (2017).  Successful students will receive a certificate and completed Job Performance Requirements.  Training includes:

    • Equipment familiarization / inspection and maintenance
    • Rigging Anchor Systems
    • Rigging Lowering Systems
    • Rigging Hauling Systems
    • Incident Management

     

    Candidates will experience training sessions as well as they will run several scenarios based on actual calls that our instructors have experienced!

     

    We can outfit our candidates with the best PPE available in the rescue industry.  Additionally, unlike many of our competitors, students will experience a 5:1 student to instructor ratio and the course will have an independent safety officer.  Not only will this ensure a safe training experience, it allows us to break students into stations for training ensuring our students spend their time doing not watching!

In addition to extrication from commercial vehicles, a strong focus of this course is disassembly and heavy lifting.
