This course focuses on patient access, patient care and patient extraction from high and low angle environments.  Students will have hands on experience with some of the following skills:

    • Rope inspection
    • Knots, bends and hitches
    • Low angle rigging
    • High angle rigging
    • Anchors and mechanical advantage
    • Ascending and descending rope

    This program is held over two weekends. May 24 (night),25,26 & May 31 (night), June 1,2

  • NFPA 1006 Vehicle Rescue Operations (19-1006.8-O-1)

    Southwest Fire Academy provides candidates with a unique training opportunity that exceeds the requirements in NFPA 1006 Chapter 8.  One of the most common technical rescues that a fire department responds to is a motor vehicle collision.  This program is an in-depth hand’s on training program that will see the students qualified to NFPA 1006 Chapter 8 (Vehicle Rescue) operations over 2.5 days.  The course includes several practical stations including:

    • Size-up and Command
    • Scene and Vehicle Stabilization
    • Patient Care
    • Basic Extrication Practices – Hand Tools
    • Advanced Extrication Practices – Hydraulics

    After candidates complete the required training stations, they will participate in several scenarios designed around complicated vehicle rescues that our instructors have responded to in the performance of their duties

    Welcome to SFA’s NFPA 1006 Confined Space Rescue Training.This course has been designed around the Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications as outlined in NFPA 1006 (2017Ed.) Chapter 7.The student manual and in-class instruction will provide you with a solid understanding of the requisite knowledge required to successfully meet the requirements of NPFA 1006(17) Chapter 7and when offered, complete the OFMEM (IFSAC) certification exam for the Confined Space Operations Level.The practical training designed for this program is like none other; our commitment to your safety and your success is unprecedented and as such we commit to the following:

    1. Student to instructor ratio of 5:1 or less
    2. Utilization of an independent Safety Officer
    3. Safety plan and hazard assessment completed and reviewed prior to training
    4. NFPA 1041 qualified instructors with years of real life emergency response experience
    5. Multiple rescuer tool kits
    6. Small work groups and multiple stations – you won’t be watching, you’ll be doing

    Skills include:

    • Command and Support Operations
    • Non-Entry Rescue
    • Hazard Identification
    • Hazard Mitigation / PPE Selection
    • Ventilation
    • Lock-out / Tag-out / Block-out
    • Horizontal and Vertical Entry and Rescue

    Prerequisite:

    SFA NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Operations or General Rescue
