  • NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor Level I (19-1041-1-2)

    The Southwest Fire Academy Fire Service Instructor Level I program in compliant to the NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Standard (2012 edition). This 80 hour training program is presented with 20 in class hours and 60 out of class hours to achieve all objectives. This course is designed to provide skills and teaching techniques for those who will be instructing emergency services courses. Areas covered are:

    ·         role of the instructor

    ·         adult learning principles

    ·         methods of instruction,

    ·         lesson planning objectives

    ·         learning environment

    ·         instructional techniques

    ·         lesson preparation.

    Students are required to complete out of class study and the pre-work package provided. Upon registration, students will be emailed a student workbook that must be completed prior to attending the first day of class.

  • NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer (19-1521-0-1)

    Southwest Fire Academy’s incident safety offer course has been designed around the NFPA 1521 Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer Professional Qualifications. This course is intended for the member within a fire department or emergency service organization who performs the functions of an Incident Safety Officer or who serves as an assistant to the Incident Safety Officer. Topics covered include:

    -          Identify safety concerns

    -          Implementation of safety programs

    -          Basic approach to ISO duties

    -          Codes, Regulations, Laws, Standards and Procedures
