SOUTHWEST FIRE ACADEMY – FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICE INSTRUCTORS

In order to meet our expanded training offerings Southwest Fire Academy is actively seeking experienced Fire and Rescue Service Instructors in a variety of disciplines. We have over 4000 instructional hours to cover off including weekday, weekend and evening training sessions. Southwest Fire Academy operates out of its new training facility located near Delhi Ontario in Norfolk County, in fire departments across Ontario and internationally throughout the Middle East. Southwest Fire Academy is seeking instructors for the following programs:

1. NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level II
2. NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Operations Plus
3. NFPA 1002 (Pumper Operations)
4. NFPA 1006 General Rescuer
5. NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Level I
6. NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Level II (Future Program Offerings)
7. NFPA 1006 Confined Space Rescue (Future Program Offerings)
8. NFPA 1006 Vehicle Rescue Level I – Passenger Vehicle
9. NFPA 1006 Vehicle Rescue Level II – Commercial Vehicle
10. NFPA 1006 Surface Water Rescue Level II
11. NFPA 1006 Surf Water Rescue Level II
12. NFPA 1006 Ice Rescue Level II
13. NFPA 1021 Fire Service Officer Level I
14. NFPA 1021 Fire Service Officer Level II
15. NFPA 1041 Fire and Emergency Service Instructor Level I
16. NFPA 1041 Fire and Emergency Service Instructor Level II
17. NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer
18. SFA Flashover Recognition
19. SFA Firefighter Survival and RIT

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Certified NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level II
2. Certified NFPA 1041Fire Service Instructor Level I
3. Certified in any other discipline you wish to instruct
4. Practical experience in the field you wish to instruct
5. Current First Aid / CPR / Defib
6. 2 Letters of reference


Preferred Qualifications:
1. Certified 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level II
2. Certified NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer
3. OFM Associate Instructor
4. OFMEM Provincial Evaluator
5. Canadian Armed Forces experience

Hiring Process:
1. Submit a resume and attach copies of certificates electronically to registrations@fire-academy.ca complete with a cover letter and 200 to 250 word bio of yourself.
2. An interview will be scheduled where you will be evaluated in the following areas:
3. Knowledge of subject matter including adult education
4. Practical skills assessment
5. Formal interview with SFA Lead Instructors
6. Shadow Course – You will be required to shadow a course under the direction of a lead instructor. This is done at no cost to SFA and is your final evaluation as an instructor.
